The swearing-in ceremony marked the formal entry into office of Duncan Muratia Nyaga of Evurore Ward and Peterson Njiru Njeru, popularly known as Weche, who will represent Muminji Ward. Both leaders secured their seats during by-elections held on February 26, 2026.
The two politicians contested under the ticket of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and recorded convincing victories, further strengthening the party’s influence in the region.
In Evurore Ward, Duncan Muratia Nyaga won the seat with 7,853 votes, defeating Albert Muchira of the Democratic Party, who garnered 1,940 votes.
Meanwhile, in Muminji Ward, Peterson Njiru Njeru secured victory with 3,207 votes. His closest competitor, Boniface Ngari of the Devolution Empowerment Party (DEP), finished second with 2,232 votes.
The by-elections were conducted after the previous ward representatives vacated their seats to pursue higher political ambitions.
Former Muminji MCA Newton Kariuki and Evurore MCA Duncan Mbui resigned to contest the Mbeere North parliamentary by-election in November 2025. However, both candidates lost to the incumbent Member of Parliament, Leo Wa Mūthende.
Following the swearing-in ceremony, Leo Wa Mūthende congratulated the new MCAs and expressed confidence in their ability to serve the residents of their respective wards.
“Heartfelt congratulations to Hon. Duncan Muratia Nyaga and Hon. Peterson Njiru Njeru upon their swearing-in as Members of the County Assembly,” he said in a message shared on social media.
He added that their election reflected the trust voters had placed in them and encouraged them to champion development and community interests.
“As you begin this important journey, may you champion the interests of our people with courage, integrity and unwavering commitment to development,” he stated.
Cecily Mbarire, the Governor of Embu County, also congratulated the two leaders earlier after their election victory.

She said the county government looked forward to working with them to advance development initiatives for residents of Evurore and Muminji wards.
The oath-taking ceremony, held at the assembly chambers, formally allows the two leaders to participate in county legislative processes, including debating policies, approving budgets and advocating for development projects in their wards.
The latest victories also reinforce the growing grassroots support for the United Democratic Alliance in the area, following the party’s win in the Mbeere North parliamentary by-election last year.
