Mavoko MP Patrick Makau Backs Sifuna for 2027 Presidency as Linda Mwananchi Campaign Gains Momentum
Makau, a member of the Wiper Patriotic Front, made his position known on Friday, August 21, 2026, as political activities surrounding Sifuna’s Linda Mwananchi movement continue to attract attention across the country.
The legislator said he would stand firmly behind Sifuna, describing his support as part of a wider push for a united and prosperous Kenya where every citizen has an opportunity to be heard.
“As a 3rd-term Member of Parliament for Mavoko and Commissioner of the Parliamentary Service Commission, I stand firmly with H.E. Edwin WaKenya Sifuna,” Makau stated.
He added that his commitment was based on the desire to see a country where the voices of ordinary Kenyans matter.
Makau’s endorsement gives Sifuna support from a sitting legislator in Machakos County and adds to the growing list of political figures publicly associating themselves with the senator’s emerging presidential bid.
Sifuna has increasingly been positioning himself as a national political figure through the Linda Mwananchi movement, which has been conducting political activities and public engagements in different parts of Kenya.
His supporters have also launched social media campaigns aimed at demonstrating that his support extends beyond Nairobi and his traditional political base.
One of the campaigns gaining attention is #SisiNdioSifuna, which encourages Kenyans from different communities to publicly declare their support for the senator.
The campaign was initiated by Abigael Gikonyo, who in July challenged Kenyans from different ethnic backgrounds to participate and show that Sifuna could attract nationwide support.
Gikonyo introduced the campaign by describing herself as a daughter of the Mountain before declaring her support for Sifuna and challenging others to use the hashtag.
Since then, other supporters have joined the campaign online, sharing messages in support of the Nairobi senator as he continues to build his political profile ahead of 2027.
Makau’s latest declaration is therefore likely to strengthen efforts by Sifuna’s allies to present him as a candidate capable of attracting support across different regions.
Political debate intensifies
The endorsement comes at a time when Sifuna’s potential presidential bid has generated increased debate among opposition politicians and other political actors.
During the burial of Gloria Seikeyan Khalwale, the late wife of Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale, several leaders publicly discussed Sifuna’s political ambitions.
Democratic Congress Party Deputy Party Leader Cleophas Malala challenged Khalwale to consider giving his political party to Sifuna as a possible political vehicle for the 2027 presidential contest.
Sifuna, however, rejected the suggestion that he needed another politician’s party to pursue his ambitions.
He questioned why anyone would assume that he did not already have a political vehicle and defended the Linda Mwananchi movement as a political brand that had gained recognition among Kenyans.
The debate has also included discussions about possible opposition alliances.
Khalwale has previously backed the possibility of a Sifuna-Kalonzo Musyoka presidential ticket, adding another dimension to the ongoing conversations about how opposition forces could organise ahead of the next election.
Makau's endorsement
Makau’s support is significant because he is a serving MP and a member of the Parliamentary Service Commission.
His declaration also comes from Machakos County, giving Sifuna another public endorsement from outside Nairobi.
However, the 2027 presidential race remains fluid, with political parties and individual leaders still working on alliances and determining their preferred candidates.
President William Ruto and his Kenya Kwanza allies are also preparing for the next election, while several opposition leaders have expressed interest in building a united front.
For Sifuna, the challenge will be to transform growing public attention and individual endorsements into a broader political coalition capable of competing nationally.
