Not Sifuna, Kalonzo, or Matiang'i: The Only Person Who Could Bring Down Ruto in 2027 — Opinion

As Kenya moves closer to the 2027 General Election, political debate continues over who stands the best chance of challenging President William Ruto. 

While names such as Edwin Sifuna, Kalonzo Musyoka, and Fred Matiang'i are frequently mentioned among potential opposition leaders, some analysts argue that none of them alone poses the greatest strategic challenge to the President.

According to this opinion, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua remains the opposition's most significant political asset. Having played a central role in building the Kenya Kwanza coalition that propelled Ruto to power in 2022, Gachagua is viewed as someone with deep knowledge of the coalition's political networks, campaign strategies, and grassroots mobilization.

The analysis suggests that Gachagua's influence goes beyond the Mt. Kenya region. It argues that he has become a rallying point for many voters who previously supported Kenya Kwanza but have since grown dissatisfied with the government's performance.
