Major Breakthrough as DCI Successfully Identify Suspected Gunman Who Shot Dr. Mutiso at Close Range

Investigations into the killing of renowned health scholar Dr. Victoria Nthunya Mutiso have reached a significant stage after detectives reportedly made key progress in identifying those believed to have carried out the fatal attack. 

The latest developments suggest that law enforcement officers are moving closer to apprehending the suspects linked to the high-profile murder.

According to an affidavit presented before the Milimani Law Courts, the lead investigating officer, Corporal Romana Odour, informed the court that detectives have successfully identified the alleged gunman responsible for shooting Dr. Mutiso. 

The scholar was attacked at close range on the morning of Wednesday, July 29, 2026, while travelling in an Uber vehicle, an incident that sparked widespread public concern and renewed calls for justice.

The investigating officer also disclosed that authorities have identified the motorcycle rider who is believed to have transported the suspected gunman during the daylight attack. 

Detectives are now focusing on locating and arresting the two individuals as investigations continue.

During the court proceedings, the prosecution informed Principal Magistrate Geoffrey Onsaringo that security agencies are actively pursuing the suspects and expect to bring them before the court once they have been apprehended. 

The prosecution stated that, "their able team is actively pursuing their arrest before they are presented in court in the upcoming days."

Meanwhile, Rose Mbithe Mulwa and her son, Chris Mulwa, remain in police custody as investigations continue. 

The two are expected to appear before the court on Monday, August 3, 2026, where they are anticipated to take their plea in connection with the murder case.

The pair did not enter a plea during their initial court appearance on Friday, July 31, 2026. This was because they had not yet undergone the required medical assessments to determine whether they were medically fit to stand trial. The examinations are a necessary legal requirement before plea-taking can proceed.

Authorities have not disclosed additional details regarding the motive behind the killing, but investigators continue to gather evidence as they work toward concluding the case. The latest breakthrough is expected to strengthen the ongoing investigation and could lead to further arrests as the legal process unfolds.
