Former Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General Ababu Namwamba has spoken out following recent political developments within the party.
Namwamba shared a detailed message on his X account on Wednesday, February 11, moments after his successor, Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, was kicked out as the party’s Secretary General.
In his X post, Namwamba responded to claims by Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi that he had been ousted from the ODM Secretary General position after going against the party’s ideals.
He firmly dismissed the assertions, maintaining that he was never fired from office.
Namwamba stated that he made a personal decision to leave the position after becoming uncomfortable with what he described as persistent internal party wrangles.
According to the former SG, he walked away voluntarily and with his dignity intact.
He said his departure was a deliberate and principled move, one that he considers the best decision of his public life and one he has never regretted.
Namwamba noted that he served the party with full commitment and left with a clear conscience.
While describing himself as a founding visionary of the Orange movement, he indicated that he chose to move on willingly.
He also urged party leaders to focus their energy on strengthening ODM, arguing that its current fortunes are not comparable to its peak years, including 2007 and 2016.
Namwamba further expressed hope that the party would realign with its founding principles and prioritise the interests of Kenyans.
He emphasised that strong and well-run political parties are essential for a vibrant constitutional democracy.
Namwamba's remarks came shortly after Sifuna was ousted as the party’s Secretary General and replaced by Busia Woman Representative Catherine Omanyo in acting capacity.
