Edwin Sifuna’s Linda Mwananchi Rally Draws Large Crowds in Vihiga

The Edwin Sifuna-led Linda Mwananchi movement attracted large crowds in Vihiga County on Saturday, as the team kicked off a series of political rallies aimed at consolidating support ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The first stop in Shamakhokho saw a lively turnout, with residents filling the venue as the delegation made its entry.

The event was further energised by media personality Willis Raburu, who recently declared his interest in the Kisumu senatorial seat and has since aligned himself with the movement. His presence and energetic stage performance drew strong reactions from the crowd.

Speaking at the rally, Sifuna expressed gratitude to supporters for their turnout and solidarity, particularly following a recent incident in Kisumu in which he was hospitalised at Karen Hospital.

He said the movement remains focused despite political challenges and intimidation claims.

The rally also doubled as a homecoming event for Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi, who joined the team in engaging supporters across the county.

Leaders used the platform to rally support for what they described as a reform-driven political agenda and to criticise the current administration ahead of the next election cycle.

The team later proceeded to Majengo and Luanda Market, where they held additional engagements, including a prayer service calling for unity and strength as they navigate the political season.

Organisers described the prayers as part of efforts to seek “divine guidance” in their campaign journey.

The movement is expected to culminate its Vihiga tour with a major rally in Kisumu City, scheduled for Sunday, April 26, 2026, where they anticipate an even larger turnout.

However, the planned Kisumu rally has already drawn political controversy. Alego Usonga MP Samuel Atandi has dismissed the event, claiming it will not succeed due to lack of local support.

He alleged that organisers may rely on mobilised students from nearby institutions to boost attendance.

Atandi insisted that residents of Kisumu are not interested in the rally, arguing that genuine political mobilisation must reflect grassroots enthusiasm rather than external mobilisation.

His remarks have intensified political debate over the influence and popularity of the Linda Mwananchi movement in the region.

Despite criticism, Sifuna’s team has maintained that their rallies are gaining momentum and represent a growing political force.

The movement continues to position itself as part of a broader push for political change, with supporters vowing to sustain their mobilisation across counties.
