Kindiki Announces Smooth UDA Grassroots Elections as Party Strengthens Nationwide Base

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has confirmed the successful completion of the United Democratic Alliance’s (UDA) Repeat Phase III grassroots elections, conducted across 18 counties as part of efforts to consolidate the party’s structures ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Speaking at Hustler Plaza on Saturday and sharing updates via his official X account, Kindiki described the elections as peaceful, orderly, and a clear demonstration of UDA’s commitment to strengthening internal democracy.

“The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party has today conducted Repeat Phase III Grassroots Elections in 18 counties namely: Kiambu, Murang’a, Kirinyaga, Nyeri, Nyandarua, Embu, Meru, Tharaka Nithi, Samburu, Trans Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Nandi, Baringo, Laikipia, Kericho, Bomet, and Vihiga,” Kindiki noted.

According to the Deputy President, the exercise attracted massive participation, with over 500,000 candidates registering to contest 20 different grassroots positions across 8,819 polling centres.

The positions were designed to represent women, youth, special interest groups, farmers, religious organisations, professionals, as well as micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) and traders.

In a milestone for party elections, the voting process was conducted electronically, resulting in the election of 150,000 grassroots officials, each receiving a direct mandate from party members.

“The exercise conducted electronically went on smoothly and in a peaceful manner and will produce 150,000 elected grassroots officials with a direct mandate from the people,” Kindiki emphasized.

The Deputy President added that the successful elections reflect UDA’s ongoing strategy to expand its grassroots base, reorganise party structures from the polling station level upwards, and enhance citizen participation within the party framework.

Political analysts note that these elections are critical for UDA’s preparations for the 2027 polls, as they enable the party to identify strong local leaders, mobilise supporters, and ensure cohesion at the county and constituency levels.

UDA has been conducting the grassroots elections in phases, aiming to build a robust foundation ahead of the national campaign season.

The party’s leadership says that these efforts not only promote democratic participation within the party but also strengthen accountability and representation at the local level.

With Phase III now complete, attention shifts to consolidating the results and preparing for the next stages of party mobilisation and candidate nomination, setting the stage for a strategically organised 2027 election campaign.
