List of Leaders Who Have Publicly Questioned the Cause of Raila Odinga’s Death

Following the death of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, a section of political leaders has publicly raised concerns about the circumstances surrounding his passing.

While official communication indicated that he died after an illness, some leaders have questioned whether the ODM party leader succumbed to natural causes, calling for further clarification or investigations.

Here is a list of leaders who have spoken out:
1. James Orengo – Siaya Governor

Siaya Governor James Orengo has been at the forefront of questioning the official narrative. In several public appearances, including a rally in Kakamega, Orengo claimed that Raila did not die of natural causes.

He alleged that unnamed individuals were responsible for his death and further suggested that the same forces are now targeting the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM). However, Orengo has not provided specific details, stating that he will speak fully at the appropriate time.
2. Kalonzo Musyoka – Wiper Party Leader

Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka backed Orengo’s remarks, saying that since such serious allegations had been made, a thorough and independent inquest should be conducted.

Speaking during a church service in Nairobi, Kalonzo emphasised the need to address lingering public concerns to ensure transparency and restore confidence among Kenyans.
3. Ruth Odinga – Kisumu Woman Representative

Raila’s sister, Ruth Odinga, has not directly alleged foul play but has declined to give detailed comments when questioned publicly. During a recent media interview, she indicated that she would speak at the right time, leaving room for speculation.
4. Caleb Amisi – Saboti MP

Saboti MP Caleb Amisi expressed dissatisfaction with the circumstances surrounding Raila’s death, saying there were “many question marks.”

He stated that while he respects the family’s mourning period, he intends to begin asking questions at the appropriate time, arguing that Raila was a global political figure whose death warrants clarity.
5. Babu Owino – Embakasi East MP

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino supported calls for scrutiny, noting that when senior legal minds like Orengo and Kalonzo raise concerns, the matter should not be dismissed lightly.

Although he stopped short of making direct allegations, he stated that “where there is smoke, there is fire,” and indicated he would speak more fully in due course.
6. Cleophas Malala – Former Kakamega Senator

Former Senator Cleophas Malala also questioned inconsistencies in public accounts of Raila’s final moments. He announced plans to write a play titled Who Killed Omollo, inspired by the controversy.

Malala cited perceived contradictions regarding whether Raila passed away while on life support or during a walk at a hospital abroad.
Claims Dismissed

On the other hand, Raila’s long-serving aide Dennis Onyango has dismissed allegations of foul play, maintaining that there was no evidence to support such claims.
