KeRRA Restores Mogor Bridge After Flood Destruction, Traffic Resumes in Narok

The Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA) has confirmed the successful reinstatement of the Mogor Bridge along the Kilgoris–Lolgorian (B3) Road in Narok County, days after it was swept away by heavy floods.

In a statement issued on Thursday, February 26, 2026, via its official social media platforms, the Authority announced that the critical crossing point has been restored, allowing motorists and residents to resume normal movement.

“The Mogor Bridge along the Kilgoris-Lolgorian Road, which was damaged by the recent heavy rains, has been successfully reinstated,” KeRRA said.

The Authority described the repair as a crucial step in restoring connectivity between communities in Trans Mara West and Trans Mara South, which had been temporarily cut off after flash floods destroyed sections of the bridge and its approaches.

The bridge was swept away earlier this week following intense overnight rainfall that caused rivers in the area to swell beyond capacity.

The floods washed away parts of the structure at approximately kilometre 21, rendering the road impassable and forcing authorities to issue safety advisories.

On Tuesday, KeRRA officials led by Chairman Anthony Mwaura and Director General Eng. Jackson Magondu visited the affected site to assess the extent of the damage and coordinate emergency response efforts.

At the time, the Authority cautioned residents and motorists against attempting to cross flooded sections, noting that heavy rains were expected to persist across parts of Narok County.

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) had also announced the temporary closure of the bridge earlier in the week, confirming that flash floods had severely damaged the approaches and disrupted direct access along the B3 corridor.

With the reinstatement now complete, KeRRA says seamless connectivity has been restored for motorists, traders, and public service vehicles that rely on the Kilgoris–Lolgorian route for daily transport and economic activities.

“This critical infrastructure repair restores seamless connectivity for motorists and communities in the region. KeRRA will continue to provide emergency information via our official social media channels. Please drive carefully,” the Authority added.

The bridge plays a vital role in linking rural communities to markets, schools, and healthcare facilities. Its temporary collapse had disrupted transport services and forced some motorists to seek alternative routes, increasing travel time and costs.
Call for caution

Despite the restoration, KeRRA has urged road users to remain vigilant, especially as the rainy season continues to affect several counties across the country.

The Authority reiterated that it will keep the public updated through official communication channels in the event of further weather-related disruptions.

Narok County has experienced recurrent flooding in recent years during periods of heavy rainfall, often affecting roads and bridges in low-lying areas.

The latest incident underscores the vulnerability of rural infrastructure to extreme weather events and the importance of rapid response measures to safeguard mobility and economic activity.

As normal traffic resumes along the B3 road, authorities are continuing to monitor weather patterns and assess other potentially affected road sections to prevent further disruptions.
