Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua found himself under intense questioning during a candid interview when a journalist confronted him over his past working relationship with President William Ruto.
The exchange grew tense after Gachagua repeated his criticism of the current administration, suggesting that he could not work with leaders he believes lack integrity or whose policies he does not support.
However, the journalist quickly challenged that stance, asking why he had been willing to continue serving as deputy president if he truly believed the leadership he served under was flawed.
“Unasema haungefanya kazi na mwizi na ndio maana ulimpigia meza,” the journalist said, referring to Gachagua’s past claims that he stood firm against decisions he disagreed with.
The journalist then posed the tough follow-up: why he had still wanted to remain deputy president under someone whose policies he allegedly did not believe in.
The question forced Gachagua to defend his record in government, explaining that his intention while in office was to serve Kenyans and push for policies he believed would benefit the country.
According to him, disagreements within leadership are normal and do not necessarily mean one cannot attempt to influence decisions from within.
The moment quickly attracted public attention, with many Kenyans praising the journalist for asking tough questions while others defended Gachagua, arguing that internal disagreements are common in politics.
The interview highlights the growing scrutiny facing political leaders as the country heads toward a highly competitive political season, where past alliances and decisions are increasingly being questioned by both journalists and the public.
