“Women were shouting that Mwangi had been killed. When we rushed to the scene, we found my cousin lying on the ground. He had been stabbed with a knife and looked like he had fallen while kneeling.”
Eyewitnesses said the confrontation stemmed from a dispute over a small amount of money. Florence Muriithi, who witnessed the incident, revealed that the argument revolved around a Ksh60 bill that Mwangi allegedly owed.
“This person had a bill, and it turned into an argument of ‘why don’t you pay?’,” Muriithi said.

“It was just 60 bob. They argued over 60 bob, even breaking it down to 30, 30. That is what caused him to die here.”
Another female witness described a chaotic scene, saying she saw the two involved in the quarrel fall to the ground as the argument intensified.
“I saw them here on the ground,” she said. “Then I heard Mwangi saying, ‘You have stabbed me with a knife.’ That is when people started screaming.”
Residents said the suspect fled the scene immediately after the stabbing, leaving Mwangi bleeding as shocked onlookers raised the alarm. Efforts to save his life were unsuccessful, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police were notified and arrived shortly after to secure the area and begin investigations. Officers have since launched a manhunt for the suspect, who remains at large.
The tragic incident has sparked anger, disbelief and deep sadness among residents, many of whom struggled to comprehend how a disagreement over such a small amount of money could end in death.
“This is very painful,” said one resident.

Local leaders and elders have condemned the incident, calling for calm and urging residents to resolve disputes peacefully. They also appealed to the suspect to surrender to authorities and face the law.
The killing adds to growing concerns over rising cases of domestic and interpersonal violence, especially during festive seasons when alcohol consumption and heightened emotions often contribute to conflicts.
