“Ruto Atakuwa Mfano” – Natembeya Says President Will Be Voted Out After One Term

George Natembeya, the governor of Trans Nzoia County, has boldly declared that President William Ruto will set a historic precedent as the first Kenyan president to be voted out after serving a single term.

Speaking during a United Opposition tour of the Kisii region in Keumbu, Natembeya dismissed the popular narrative that unseating an incumbent head of state is difficult.

He argued that the Kenyan Constitution allows a leader to serve five years before seeking re-election and that Ruto will be the first to break the pattern by failing to secure a second term.

“Ruto atakuwa mfano kwamba inawezekana kumuondoa rais ambaye yuko kwa kiti,” Natembeya stated, asserting that history will remember the current president as an example of how an incumbent can be removed through the ballot.

Natembeya accused Ruto of failing the nation during his term and said the electorate would not be willing to reward perceived poor leadership with a second term.

He further urged electoral reforms at the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), including making constituency tallying centre results final for all elective seats to prevent alleged loopholes that could lead to election manipulation.

The remarks came as part of the United Opposition’s three-day Gusii tour under the rebranded United Alternative Government coalition.

The tour aimed to consolidate support in the region considered the political backyard of Fred Matiang’ieya and his party leader, Eugene Wamalwa, appeared united during the tour, setting aside the feud that dominated much of 2025.

The reconciliation has strengthened the Democratic Action Party – Kenya’s (DAP-K) presence in the region ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Political analysts say Natembeya’s statements and the opposition tour are part of a broader strategy to position United Opposition leaders as a credible alternative to the incumbent government.

The tour, coupled with Matiang’i’s coronation, is expected to influence voter sentiment in the lead-up to next year’s polls.

By the end of the Gusii tour, Natembeya reiterated that the people have the power to vote out ineffective leaders and that Ruto’s single-term presidency will serve as a historic example for future incumbents.
