Matiang’i Set to Join United Opposition as Coalition Ramps Up Mbeere North Campaign

The United Opposition is preparing for a major boost in its campaign efforts after reports emerged that former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i will soon appear on the campaign trail.

According to Jubilee Party Deputy Organising Secretary Pauline Njoroge, Matiang’i has been quietly holding meetings with grassroots leaders and is expected to step into the national campaign circuit in the coming days.

Her statement comes at a time when the opposition is running an intensified, countrywide effort ahead of the Mbeere North by-election.

Pauline shared the update through her official social media page on Tuesday. She praised the energy and teamwork displayed across different regions, noting that the coalition had grown more coordinated than at any point in recent months.

In her post, Pauline highlighted the role played by Democracy for Citizens Party leader Rigathi Gachagua, who has been leading vigorous campaigns in Mbeere North.

She described him as a highly effective mobiliser whose style of campaigning had raised the bar across the opposition alliance.

Pauline said she was impressed by how Gachagua handled both large rallies and door-to-door engagements.

According to her, his efforts in Mbeere North had helped build strong momentum for the coalition’s candidate in the upcoming mini-poll.

Pauline also pointed out that the activities in Mbeere North were just one part of a wider, well-planned campaign strategy.

She noted that Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka was in Magarini rallying support for Karisa Kenga, while George Natembeya and Eugene Wamalwa were in Malava drumming up support for Seth Panyako.

She said the broad presence of senior opposition figures across different battlegrounds showed that the coalition was working as a united front.

In her view, the movement had become more structured, more determined and more confident about taking on its rivals.

The biggest update came when Pauline revealed that Fred Matiang’i would soon join the campaign trail.

His involvement is expected to draw national attention, as Matiang’i still commands influence in several regions due to his previous roles in government.

Political analysts believe that Matiang’i’s presence will add new momentum to the coalition’s strategy. They argue that his return may help solidify the opposition’s support base in areas where he remains popular.

The Mbeere North mini-poll has turned into a major political contest, with both sides viewing it as an opportunity to test their strength ahead of the next general election.

Over the past few weeks, the race has attracted heavy political traffic, signalling how important the outcome is to national players.
